Terry Jones BIO

Terry Jones, Terrynj on 2cool. I live in Webster Texas which is only 7 miles from Clear Lake on Galveston, Bay. I am married to Debbi (Lady Carlotta’ on 2cool) and have a son Christopher, and 1 Grandson, Jackson. I am currently involved in the Custom Audio Video field doing sales and design work for residential homes.

Debbi and I have too many interest, but have narrowed them down into seasons that we overindulge in our passions. Summertime is fishing and enjoying our Plumerias. We have over a 150 plants with around 30 different species. As summer winds down, we gear up for the Renaissance Festival held each year just outside of Houston. It IS the largest in the country and runs for 7 weekends starting in October. And yes, I hate to say it, I sew…..we create and design all of our period outfits and tend to focus on Elizabethan Period Aristocracy. We make Debbi full blown, hoop skirted gowns with bodice, boning and all. We enjoy it very much and have many friends at the festival.

I started building rods in Feb, 07 and immediately started deviating from the norm (I can’t help it). I have been developing different ways of approaching fishing rods with grips designs and am heavily involved in developing painting techniques for rods. My love is wade fishing for big trout, reds second, and throw everything else back I have never built an off shore rod and have only done one with a cork handle.

I second Doc's comments Terry.
The effort you and the group are doing with the TRB and "Rods for Soldiers" is even more inspiring than your truly amazing handle & painting rod work!

I'm honored that you would invite me to be a part of it all and I am commited to contribute what ever I can. If the folks here ever need something all you have to do is holler. If I can do it, it will be done.

BTW, I once was a singing court jestor(outfit lute & all) at the Renessaunce Fair in So. Cal. it was a real blast!

Yes - thanks to you and all who made TRB possible.

Sew? You - work - with - thread? Eeww!bleh.gif
Real rod builders don't work with... eh, er...oh yeah...  sorry 'bout that.
GOTCHA! wink.gif
My wife is a seamstress and makes the very finest rod socks I've ever seen. Makes me really appreciate what a person can do with thread and fabric.
But seriously -
Terry, you're the only rod builder I can think of who works with the shape, color and design of the whole rod as an art form. Outstanding.
Be careful - you may end up setting a new trend!

Thank you Kevin and Raymond! And yes...you got me on working with thread!
I have just finished my first rod sock as a way of protecting my projects. I did a regular rod sock, but the handle end opens up and is lined with velvet. I also made a ahndle for it. I've been debsating if I want to post it up on 2cool or not. I can definately put it up here. Please post up some pix of your wifes...i would love to see what she is doing!

Terry I have to thank you for spending so much time in putting this forum together, as a few have already said there is a great bunch of people here who one day Owen and I would love to meet.

And terry nothing wrong with sewing maybe you can give Owen a lesson when we come over.

Can you tell me what a rod sock is and how it is made? I pretty much understand that it would be used to put your rod in but I have never heard or seen one before.

Cheers Sandy
