Jim Lueck bio

Hello everbody, I'm Jim Lueck (pg542 on 2cool). I've never been married, came close once, but that was a long time ago. No kids either. I built a house in Crosby(east of Houston) in '05 and enjoy living there. It's a little  to far from the coast when it's time for fishing, and a little to close when hurricanes are brewing.
I make my living as an operations manager of a power generation equipment company. Simply put, I work on large(really large) industrial electric generators. Needless to say, when those aforementioned hurricanes knock out a lot of power somewhere, my work can get busy!
I've come to the realization that if I did'nt have to work, eat or sleep, then maybe, just maybe there would be enough time for all the things I'm interested in. Could'nt afford them but I'd have the time. I like most anything to do with the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, shooting sports and hobbies related to them. I enjoy reloading for extreme accuracy. It can be rewarding to take an "off the shelf" rifle, capable of mediocre performance at best, and with a little work and precision reloading, make an excellent shooter out of it.
I started building rods in '83 and was prolific for a few years and then walked away from it for a while after a burglary relieved me of all me wrapping equipment and components as well as a few highly cherished rods. I've only started  again since about the middle of '03 and even still I  don't build that much. Nothing for sale and a little for friends family etc. Maybe 3 or 4 rods a year, and lately that's slipping. Sometimes life get's in the way of living. .....I would also like to learn alittle more about photography. I recently bought a great digital DSLR and at present, it is way smarter than I am, but I'm gaining on it.
My fishing  and building interests lie with the coastal inshore and an affinity for beachfront heavy surfcasters and that type of fishing. 30# class longrods for large redfish(bullreds) Jack cravelle, and an occassional shark. One of my pier rat buddies recently broke the Texas state record for Tarpon (yes, from a beachfront pier). Just a little over 210lbs. and 89 inches. The silver king flotilla still can't stand it. From a pier? This same fellow also used to work for Danny at FTU in the rod/reel repair shop and is quite a builder himself. But me, I'd just be happy to hook and land one from the beach. ......some day.......

"Sometimes life get's in the way of living"

Ya got that right Jim!
Seems we have a few things in common. I started building rods about the same time as you
and took a long hiatus away from it, returning to it about the same time too. Small world even if EVERYTHING is so big in Texas.. LOL

Interesting to hear about other peoples and how they live, like the hurricanes we don't have them here but have seen on TV what they can do. Scary
Have to agree with work getting in the way but then fact takes over from fiction and I realise that I can't do all these over sea trips if I give up work. I have tried to convince Owen to sell the house buy a bus and just go. I think I have another 25 years before he will be convinced and then we will become one of the grey head nomads. Can't wait.

What kind of fish do you go for and did you happen to get a picture of the Tarpon would love to see it. Though I am not sure what a Tarpon is.

Jim, it was great meeting you in person this last weekend. I hope to return the favor and make it down to one of your meetings some time. Btw there hadn't better be any pictures of car tags or I'll have to come down and visit you sooner (lol). Again it was great talking to you and Mary Lou, I enjoyed. Mark

Sell the house and travel(and fish along the way) sounds like a great time. Be sure to stop by and pick me up on your way by. lol......Mostly, the fish I target on the beachfront would be oversized Redfish (Red Drum), jackfish(Jack Crevalle), various shark species, and the holy grail would be a Tarpon. Not very common (from the beach) but not unheard of either. I think there were some pictures of the fish on 2cool but I would have to look back in the archives. The fish was caught by Jeremy Ebert on October 4th or 5th of '06 in Galveston Texas. If I find a link to it I'll let you know. It was a treat to hear of such a fish being caught by him since he really is a good fisherman who has paid his dues and is a pretty good rodbuilder himself......Don't forget, you and Owen stop and pick me up on you way through,,,,,Jim
