I finally took a little time off to do some field testing. We went to LakeMendota. We were fishing with a slip bobber for pan fish and ended up with a bunch of these lousy fish hitting the bait instead. This was the largest at just under 21", I also had a 19", and two 18" smallies and about 10 over 15". It was one of those days were you couldn't do any thing wrong. BTW we did catch some pan fish as well the largest bluegill was 9.5" and they averaged about 8".
Very nice Mark! I hope I get out for some fall fishing before it gets too cold. Once I get into a walking cast I plan on heading out everyday. Thats the plan anyhow.............
Yessir, don't you just hate it when your panfishing is interrupted by those ugly ol' smallies? And such big ones too. What a way to ruin a trip. lol. The one in the photo is quite a "chunk".....What was your method/bait? Apparently you had their number...... Those "can't do anything wrong" days are magic when they happen..........Beautiful fish.......Jim
Jim, the magic combination was a slip bobber and a night crawler in about 17' of water off a 10' rock bar. It was kind of funny the large bass were almost on the bottom, but we had a couple of gills as we were bringing them in there were a bunch of small (less than 10") bass chasing after the gills trying to steal the bait from them. It was just one of those days and it probably won't happen like that again any time soon. I really enjoyed fishing this way, you never knew what was going to be on the other end until you set the hook. If it was a bass set the hook and hang on, they would make a heck of a run before you could get them in the boat.
Scott, what happened to your foot? I just saw something about it in an e/mail, but no details. We should see about meeting up on the Mississippi some time.
